How Did She Say That?

Writing should be a visual endeavor. Let your reader get lost in the pictures of your story.


If your protagonist is a young woman with something to say, don’t stop with the dialogue.


If she says: “I’ll need to think about that.” Show her saying it. Does she put her hands on her hips, staring at the ceiling? Perhaps she taps her lips with the end of a pencil while curling a strand of hair around her finger. Maybe she reaches into her bright red purse, feeling for her handgun.
